FARM FRESH RECEIPTS

Farm Fresh will donate one point to our church for every dollar spent in their stores. To date we have approximately $8000 in receipts to be used towards free items for our church.  Please continue to save your receipts.  They will be accepted through May 31st.  A box has been placed in the lobby for the receipts.

SENIOR SAINTS

The “Senior Saints” are planning a Valentine dinner on February 21st at 6:30 PM.  A delicious meal will be served followed by entertainment with Mary Barnes and daughter, Julie Dunn.  Please mark this on your calendar.  We would love to see you there.  Reservations are being taken through February 17th.  Contact Boots Strange for more information.

FOOD MINISTRY

The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia teams up with America’s Second Harvest to obtain surplus food and donations.  Statistics show that one in five persons living in Tidewater qualifies for food assistance.  Here at Calvary in January, we accessed 1,933 pounds of frozen meats and canned goods from the Foodbank.  With this food we fed 151 families comprising 177 individuals.  Our AWANA kids brought oatmeal in January and others brought canned meat and toilet paper.  Each of these items is appreciated.  Pray for the recipients of the food that they will know we do this because we love Jesus.  Tuesday mornings, Elaine Thornton and Lois Brisbin care for Portsmouth people who are referred to our church for a food supplement.  On the fourth Thursday, a team of Ed and Jean Grace, Myrtice Hamlett and Rachel Cox share a monthly supplement with Effingham Plaza residents.  Lastly, bags are made up for the residents at Malvern Hill, a low income senior complex.  Your help will be needed if/when the mezzanine project commences.  The Food Pantry is voluntarily moving to make room for the anticipated new children’s spaces.  Please pray for a smooth transition of all involved in this move.

ANNOUNCING WEDNESDAY NIGHT JERUSALEM MINISTRY

About a dozen CBC members are serving as mentors at Wednesday night dinners to our Cottage Place children.  Dinner time gives us a chance to get to know the children better; to understand their needs, hopes and dreams; to love them; to show that we care about them; and to serve as Christian role models for them.  If you’d like to be a part of this Jerusalem ministry, just look for the mentors at the Cottage Place tables on Wednesday night and receive a blessing with us!

WOMEN OF FAITH

This year our Baptist Women’s group would like to organize a trip to Washington, D.C. for the “Infinite Grace Conference.”  The conference will begin Friday evening, July 11th at 7:00 pm and conclude Saturday, July 12th at 6:00 pm.  We will plan to leave the church early Friday and return Saturday evening.  If you are interested in attending this conference please call Connie Powell at the church office (399-1050) and have your name added to the list.
